Ambassadors Program
"It takes a village to raise a child." - African proverb
Ambassador Brochure
Spirit Newsletter Winter 07
Being an LSI ambassador is a unique volunteer opportunity to help abused, orphaned and troubled children, families and individuals in Iowa. Ambassadors become advocates in their church, congregations and communities for Iowa's most vulnerable people. They inform and encourage prayer and financial support for LSI. In addition, ambassadors learn and become familiar with spiritual and community resources. They become support liaisons for children, families and individuals.
Ambassadors Events
Why does LSI need ambassadors?
- Currently, nearly 300 childeren are on the state's residential treatment waiting list. LSI needs compassionate people who care about these children and will advocate on their behalf.
- Senior adults have two important resources our youth need desperately - life experience and time. LSI needs liaisons to inform and help bring two generations together that have so much to offer each other.
- Statistics show kids and families receiving community support after treatment have a higher success rate. LSI needs caring people to welcome those rejoining communities and to provide information about services.
Ambassadors help by ...
- informing pastors and congregations about LSI's mission, vision, values, programs and services.
- advocating for more than 1,500 troubled children served daily by LSI through encouragement, prayer and financial support.
- encouraging an annual or biannual LSI Sunday event in their congregation, including an LSI speaker. (Promotional materials are available.)
- supplying information about supportive networks for youth returning to communities after treatment.
- serving as a resource to congregations, communities and at-risk youth, families and senior adults.
- updating their church council once a year about LSI needs.
- sharing community concerns and needs with LSI.
In addition to annual training and inspirational events, each ambassador is provided with support materials, newsletters, prepared announcements and congregational updates.
